Yesterday afternoon we headed out to the park that’s down the street from our apartment. Francisco put Mariel in the bucket seat swing, pulled back, and let her fly. There was a moment of worry: “He’s letting her go too high. What if she falls out? What if we can’t catch her?”

But she wasn’t thinking about any of that. She was laughing without fear or restraint, enjoying the strange new sensation of moving through the air. The giggles left her breathless.

When do we learn fear?
What’s the moment when something we say or do changes everything for our kids?
How long can we let them explore the world without projecting our own worries onto them?
How can we keep the world wondrous for them?
